Obituary for Gertrude Miller
Earth has no sorrow, that heaven cannot heal.
Mrs. Gertrude Elminer Westmoreland Miller, 85, of 241 Springway Lane, Cleveland, N. C., passed away at her residence on Monday, May 8, 2017, following an extended illness. She was born in Iredell County on April 16, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Lenoir Westmoreland and Bertha Heaggans Westmoreland.
She retired after many years of service to Sexton Janitorial housed in Burlington Industries, Mooresville. She was a lifelong member of South Iredell AME Zion Church where prior to her illness, she faithfully served as Deaconess, Missionary, and Church Mother. Her favorite past-time was reading the bible. One of many favorite scriptures was Psalm 23.
In addition to parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Eric Miller; three brothers, Paul (Elizabeth) Westmoreland, Lenore (Kassandra) Westmoreland and Will Westmoreland; and three sisters, Ossie Clark, Alberta (Harold) Sanders and Phyllis Jones.
Those continuing her legacy include her son, William (Marjorie) Miller of Concord; her daughter, Gladys (Kenneth) Everhart of the home; two brothers, Hugh Westmoreland and Barnette (Glenda) Westmoreland, both of Mooresville; an aunt, Lorene Patterson of Statesville; eleven grandchildren, Trena Blackmon of Statesville, Tyrone Gardner (Linda Boles) of Wilkesboro, Randy Miller of Statesville, Larry Everhart of Charlotte, Sheryl Everhart of Statesville, Sherry (Tyris) Bailey of Troutman, Torry Everhart of Cleveland, Sharon (Joe) Leonard of Kannapolis, Kaseem Miller of Statesville, Talaya Miller of Cleveland, and JeVon Miller of Statesville; thirty-eight great grandchildren; thirteen great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews other relatives, church family, neighbors and dear friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at South Iredell AME Zion Church in Troutman. Reverend Bobbi Samuels will officiate and burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Miller will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 1:00 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. (one hour prior to the service), but will asemble at the residence at other times.
