Obituary for Andrew Reid
Andrew Pinkney Reid, 77, of 1130 Rita Avenue, Statesville, passed away at Iredell Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 27, 2017, following an extended illness. He was born in Iredell County on December 3, 1939, and was the son of the late Jack BufordReid and Inez Dalton Reid. He was married to Dorothy Moton Reid, who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Buford Reid, a sister, Faye Redmon, a sister-in-law, Mary “Chi” Moton Torrence; and a nephew, Thomas Anthony Sherrill.
“A.P.” as he was affectionately called, attended Unity High School and was employed by Southern Screw for many years. He was a member of Logan Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully as an Usher until his health failed. He loved driving in the fast lane and you would often hear him before you saw him from riding his motorcycle, drag racing or sporting a new car. He was united in marriage on May 25, 1963 and shared fifty-four years with his wife, Dorothy Moton Reid.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he leaves to cherish the memory of his life, two sons, Al Eugene Reid of the home and Donald Wayne (Laura) Reid of Statesville; one daughter, Angela Reid (Larry) Morrison of Statesville; five grandchildren, AlJermaine Bruner, Algernon Reid, Olando Bruner, Camille Reid and Lacee Reid, all of Statesville; one great grandchild, Kingston Reid of Ahoskie; two brothers, Herman (Geraldine) Reid and Harry (Valetha) Reid, both of Statesville; three sisters, Coetta Dalton McCleese of Orlando, Fl.; Cathy (Walter) Cornelius of Greensboro and Paula (Leonard) Gabriel of Troutman; three brothers-in-law, James A. Moton of Charlotte, Johnny (Beatrice) Moton and Henry Moten, both of Statesville; four sisters-in-law, Mae Lois (Harold) Gillon, Shirley M. Imes, Daisy (Ervin) Keaton, and Mary Frances (Jimmy) Jones, all of Statesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and dear friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Logan Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kaye Barrow-Ziglar, Pastor, Officiating. Mr. Reid will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12:30 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, but will assemble at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Larry Morrison, 709 Caldwell Street, Statesville, N. C., at other times.
